All of my usual lens options were out on other shoots this weekend, so I headed to the Red Centre with nothing but my trustee 50mm f1.8 to undertake the ‘50mm Challenge’. With a limited field of view, it was going to be tricky to capture the scale of Uluru, Kata Tjuta and Kings Canyon. But I didn’t have a choice, so there you have it.
The great thing about the 50mm challenge is that it forces you to be strict with composition. A lot of these shots below are more miss than hit, but it was an excellent discipline to practice for a few days.
I was travelling with Adventure Tours Australia on their 3 day Rock to Rock tour, guided by the legendary ATA leader Cardie, as well as the Aboriginal guide Vance for our Mala walk around part of the base of Uluru. The trip was superb – in fact I love it so much that this is the second time I have done this itinerary… Get to the Red Centre, it will blow your mind.
